: Original blue cloth binding with gilt lettering on spine and cover, and embossed seal of the Russell Sage Foundation on cover. Cloth is a little scuffed, and edges are worn, but binding is firm. Signed by Esther Lucile Brown on flyleaf, and owned previously by Norma L. Woodruff. Interior contains some underlining in pencil. Chapters include: Extension of Health Services, Future Demand for Nursing Care, Differentiations of Nursing According to Function, Future Role of the Professional Nurse, Education for Practical and Graduate Bedside Nurses, Education for the Professional Nurse, and Resources for the Future. Esther Lucile Brown (1898-1990) was a social anthropologist and the director of the Department of Studies in the Professions for the Russell Sage Foundation. In general, Brown argued that nurses should be aware of patients’ cultural backgrounds to improve care. She was asked to study the nursing profession following the nursing shortages of World War II, resulting in the publication of this report. From the nursing history collection of Sarah Abrams.
